RMIT Board Game Association (RBGA)

The RMIT club you can just turn up to

Based at RMIT University in Melbourne, RBGA is one of Victoria's most active university board game clubs with a diverse library of modern board games and tabletop RPGs. Some of us came for the games. Most came because a lecture hall is a hard place to meet people, and a table with a game on it isn't.

New to board games? Or new to RMIT?

Never played a board game before? That's completely fine.

Most people at RBGA didn't either when they first came along. You don't need to bring anything, know any rules, or stay the whole time. Just turn up and someone will get you seated!

Walk in alone, leave with a group chat.

Before Your First Session

Can I come alone?

Yes, almost everyone does the first time. Psychologists call it the liking gap: after meeting someone new, people reliably underestimate how much the other person enjoyed it. The person across the table is nervous about the same thing you are. Sit down and someone will deal you in.

Do I need to know the rules?

No. Most of us had barely played anything beyond Monopoly before joining. Every game on the shelf comes with someone who loves teaching it, and a rules mistake in a short game costs you ten minutes, not a night.

Is it free?

Membership is free and so are the weekly sessions, including every game in the library. Some special events have tickets through our Rubric page.

Do I need to sign up or book before coming?

No bookings and no RSVP. Sessions run in the same rooms at the same times every week, so you can decide at 2 PM and be seated by 2:35.

When and where do you run sessions?

City campus on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 PM in Building 57, Level 4, Room 57.4.37, and Bundoora on Wednesdays from 3 PM in Building 204. The full calendar, including special events, is on our Rubric page.

How do I actually make friends at RMIT?

Turn up to the same place twice. Strangers talk easily when there's a third thing to focus on, and a board game is a purpose-built third thing. You learn the rules together and the conversation runs itself. Behavioural research is blunt about the rest: people who pick an exact time and place actually go. So pick the session that fits your timetable and put it in your calendar. City runs Mondays and Wednesdays, Bundoora runs Wednesdays. Come twice and people will greet you by name.

Do I have to be an RMIT student to join?

Yes, membership and sessions are for RMIT students. Sign up free through our Rubric page and turn up to any session, City or Bundoora.

Explore Our Games Library

We own a huge collection of modern board games and card games, all free to play at our sessions. Party games, heavy strategy, quick fillers. There's something for every table.

Join our Discord

We are most active on our Discord server, where we share event updates, photos, and have general chat about all things tabletop. It's the best way to connect with the community and stay in the loop on upcoming events and game nights.

Meet people before you show up

If walking into a room cold isn't your thing, say hi in the server first. You'll recognise usernames at your first session. Hundreds of RMIT students are already in there.

Weekly Sessions & Social Events

We gather several times a week across our City and Bundoora campuses to play our expansive library of games. Favourites include Monikers, The Mind, Blood on the Clocktower, Root, Wingspan, Skull and Coup. Plenty of people come down after class just to hang out. If you're after social events at RMIT that don't need a ticket or a plan, this is the low-effort option: same rooms, same times, every week. Becoming a regular is the best way to make friends here, but you're welcome to drop in whenever you like.

City: Mondays & Wednesdays

From 2:30 PM until late. Building 57, Level 4, Room 57.4.37, RMIT City Campus.

Bundoora: Wednesdays

From 3 PM. Building 204, 225-245 Plenty Rd, Bundoora VIC 3083.
